One thing we frequently get asked about is the best type of file to send to us (jpeg, tiff, RAW, etc.). The shortest, and probably most applicable, answer to that question is that it really depends on what you are wanting. RAW files are ultimately the best to work with, as they contain the most information and allow for the largest latitude of adjustments when we optimize your image for printing. If you have a RAW file, and want us to optimize your image, then send us that. If you shoot RAW and have already made your adjustments, then saving as a tiff will retain the most data, so send us that one. However, RAW files are very large, thus take a long time to upload, and quite frankly most people don't shoot RAW. That's ok. If your image is already exactly how you want it to look, was shot as a jpeg (as most cameras will), or if have already saved your images as jpegs, then send us that. Most people do not have either the software or the time to deal with the extra processing a RAW file takes anyhow. We can work with any of these and get you fantastic results. So, in summation, while RAW files give us the most information, jpegs are the most popular and are in no way restrictive of getting you a fantastic print. Just send us what you have and we'll do what we do. |
